My maternal grandmother played piano in the 1910s and 20s - she played for silent movies. My father played during 20s, 30s and 40s - in bands and on tent repertoire theatre. Both cautioned me not to play rags too fast. Some rag pieces are written in march tempo as well. I am 68 and play rags.
